Highlights from Sport

This has been one of the busiest and most successful sporting periods at Chiswick School with over 30 fixtures taking place, several cup borough competitions as well as Middlesex cross country and football finals.

Firstly, in the cross country Middlesex competition Chiswick had seven runners who all did brilliantly with Ava Oldfield in Year 10 our best finisher in the top 25 whilst running against others in the year above.

In basketball we have had fixtures in Year 7 and 8 against The Green School and Heston School. Both games were played in the right spirit and the Year 7 team managed to win their highly competitive game with a dominant final quarter.

In netball, there has unfortunately been postponements with the Hounslow rallies postponed to later in the year. In terms of league fixtures, the teams have been very successful in all years with victories against Heathland, Cranford and Brentford in various years including the first ever win for the Year 7 team.

We have had lots of success in the Hounslow football leagues and rallies with all teams in Years 7 to 10 winning all their games against teams such as Cranford, Rivers, Kingsley, Gumley and Bolder.

The prestigious Middlesex School Football Cup saw Chiswick School have 5 teams in the semi finals which is a huge achievement in itself and was highly praised by the organisers. This resulted in 3 teams progressing into the Middlesex finals after the U18s narrowly lost to Northolt High 4-3 and the Year 7s lost to Bishops Ramsey in a hard fought game.

The Year 8 girls and Year 9 boys and Year 9 Girls all found themselves in the finals which took place at Rectory Park. The Year 8 girls played first against a very strong Latymer team and sadly lost narrowly. The girls were praised for the spirit they played the game and their fantastic attitude throughout the competition.

The Year 9 Girls went one better and won the cup. This is a fantastic achievement and is the first time Chiswick School have won a Middlesex Cup in any age group since 1987 and the first time a girls team has been successful ever. The game finished 3-1 with superb performances from everyone in the team. Well done to all the girls that participated as well as Mr Ubor and Miss Werdley who have coached them throughout the year. This extraordinary success will live long in the Chiswick Memory.

The Year 9 boys matched the girls cup success with a fantastic performance to win 1-0 vs UCS. An expertly converted penalty at the beginning of the second half put Chiswick in Control of the final. Resolute defence from everyone in the squad for the remainder of the game saw Chiswick Victorious.

A historic week for Chiswick School to have two cup winning team! Well done to all involved.
