- Year 10 Cultural Exchange at the Goethe...
This May, our Languages Department had the pleasure of taking part in a day of cultural engagement at the Goethe- Institut with 15 of our Year 10 German students. The event introduced a collaborative arts exchange with students from Berlin, who shared insights into the similarities and differences between our capital cities through street interviews, short films, and songs—all presented in a small lecture theatre.
Following the presentations, our students had the opportunity to practise their listening and speaking skills through guided conversations with the visiting German students. It didn’t take long for the ice to break, and soon the room was filled with animated, bilingual discussions.
After lunch, students participated in a library 'treasure hunt', working in groups to answer questions about the institute and German authors more broadly.
To round off the day, we enjoyed a presentation on graffiti in Berlin, exploring its role in the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany. This inspired our students to get creative in their own way, as they were challenged to design their own German-themed graffiti on card—an activity that revealed some of our hidden artistic talents.
It was a thoroughly enriching day of language, culture and creativity, and we look forward to continuing the exchange!
