Following the launch of the Humanutopia programme with Year 10 in December, many students applied to become Heroes Mentors. A group of Year 10 students, alongside members of the Student Leadership Team, took part in a full-day training session led by Humanutopia facilitators. Through stories and real-life scenarios, students built the confidence and skills needed to act as positive role models within our school.
In the afternoon, students had the chance to put their training into practice when they were surprised by a visit from 150 Year 6 pupils from Cavendish and Grove Park primary schools. Our Heroes led small-group activities and shared inspiring messages, showing real maturity, kindness and leadership.
On Thursday 8 January, all Year 8 students took part in a one- hour workshop focused on communication and confidence. The following day, Year 7 spent the day in the ‘Who Am I?’ workshop, led by our Heroes. Students reflected on their past, challenged themselves to step outside their friendship groups, and thought carefully about their future goals and ambitions. Every Year 7 student finished the day committing to three positive changes to help shape their future.
Year 7 students shared some thoughtful reflections, including:
“I’m going to be much more grateful for the things I have.”
“We should appreciate our lives more because not everyone has the same opportunities.”
This work is an important part of our anti-bullying strategy, helping to build empathy, confidence and positive relationships across the school. Feedback from students and staff has been extremely positive, and we are proud of the way our students are supporting one another and contributing to a kind, respectful school community.
