Year 8 & 9 Pupils Build Resilience on Outdoor Adventure Day in Surrey

This term, eighteen of our Year 8 and Year 9 pupils took part in a day trip to an outdoor activity centre in Surrey —an experience designed to challenge them, build resilience, and develop a wide range of new skills. From the moment they arrived, pupils were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, support one another, and approach each activity with curiosity and determination.

Throughout the trip, pupils engaged in an impressive variety of outdoor challenges. Archery sessions tested their focus and patience, while rock climbing called for courage, trust, and teamwork as they motivated one another to reach the top. Caving proved to be one of the most memorable activities, giving pupils the chance to explore underground passageways and develop problem-solving skills in an unfamiliar environment. Fire-starting workshops also taught them practical outdoor skills, along with the importance of safety and responsibility.

What stood out most was the positive attitude and resilience shown by our young people. Many pupils achieved things they initially doubted they could do, and the pride they felt was clear. The bonding between year groups, the supportive atmosphere, and the determination to “have a go” helped make the experience truly special.

This opportunity would not have been possible without the generous funding provided by our PTA. Their support ensured that pupils could take part and benefit fully from this valuable experience, and we are extremely grateful for their continued commitment to enriching school life.

We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who took part. Not only did they return home with new skills, but also with increased confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of teamwork.
