Year 12 Inspired by Comedian and Author Sadia Azmat

During their Friday assembly slot, Year 12 students had the opportunity to hear from Sadia Azmat, a comedian, author, broadcaster, and consultant whose work spans comedy, culture, and meaningful conversation. This session was particularly valuable for students interested in creative industries, media, writing, performance, or careers linked to cultural representation.

Sadia spoke about her journey as a British Asian comedian and how she uses humour to challenge expectations and spark thoughtful discussion. She also shared insights from her award winning podcast No Country For Young Women, where she explores themes of identity, culture, and work with honesty and warmth.

Students were fascinated to learn about her experiences as an author, including the process of writing her debut book Sex Bomb, which highlights aspects of British Asian life through a candid and engaging voice.

In addition to her work in entertainment, Sadia discussed her role as a consultant, offering guidance to organisations on how to better understand diverse audiences and create more inclusive environments. Her advice drew on her own experiences navigating the media landscape and demonstrated the impact of cultural awareness in professional settings.

The talk was inspiring and relatable, and our Year 12 pupils came away with a clearer sense of how creative skills and personal identity can shape future career paths.
