- Year 13 History Trip to France
Last week, Year 13 historians embarked on a fascinating four- day trip to France, designed to bring their A-Level studies to life and deepen their understanding of key historical themes from the Hundred Years War to European monarchy and revolution.
The trip began with a visit to the battlefield of Agincourt, the site of Henry V’s legendary victory in 1415 — a defining moment in the Hundred Years’ War and a key topic in the Lancastrians and Yorkists paper.
Students explored the museum’s interactive displays and stood near the very ground where Henry’s forces triumphed against overwhelming odds, gaining valuable insight into medieval leadership, tactics, and chivalric warfare.
On day two, the group travelled to the stunning Palace of Versailles, one of Europe’s most iconic royal residences and site of notable historical events such as the Paris Conference where the fate of Germany was decided after the Second World War. Students toured the beautifully landscaped gardens that symbolise splendour of Louis XIV’s reign. The visit provided a vivid context for discussions on absolutism, monarchy, and the causes of revolution.
The evening ended in unforgettable style with a trip to the Eiffel Tower, where students watched the tower sparkle. The third day took the group to Rouen, a city rich in medieval history and famously linked to Joan of Arc. Students visited sites associated with her trial and execution, gaining a deeper understanding of her significance in both English and French history, and reflecting on themes of faith, nationalism, and martyrdom that shaped the era. Day three ended with a history department trip staple, a highly competitive quiz.
The final day featured a walking tour of Paris, offering a chance to explore the city from Notre-Dame to the Louvre, as well as search for some souvenirs. A big thanks from the history department for the enthusiasm and excellent conduct of our Year 13s throughout the trip!
