Sport Review: A Half Term to Remember

What a start to the year for sport at Chiswick School! From packed-out clubs to silverware on the pitch and national champions in our midst, our students have shown commitment, talent and real team spirit this half term. Here’s a look back at the highlights.

Clubs Going From Strength to Strength

Our extracurricular programme has seen brilliant attendance from week one, with badminton, basketball and futsal oversubscribed as students rushed to get involved. We’ve also welcomed a brand-new bouldering club led by Miss Whitaker, which has been a hit from its very first session. Our rugby club is building towards a contact-ready squad, with the aim of entering fixtures later this year.

In lessons, hockey, swimming and rugby have got off to a great start too, with our specialist in-curriculum coaches helping students develop their skills and confidence.

In total, 504 students in Years 7-11 have attended at least one club this half term.

Cup Runs

Our teams have shown real grit in knockout competition:

  • Year 8 Boys produced the comeback of the term in the Middlesex Cup, fighting back from 2–0 down to win 3–2.
  • Year 8 Girls held their nerve to win on penalties after a thrilling 3–3 draw.
  • Year 9 Boys ground out a hard-earned 1–0 cup victory.

Character in Every Result

Not every game went our way, but our students never stopped battling. Our Year 11 boys finished third at the Hounslow 5-a-side Senior Tournament, while our Year 10s (lost 6– 2 in the cup), Year 11 boys (lost 2–0 in the Middlesex Cup) and Year 7 boys (edged out 4– 3 on penalties after a 2–2 draw) all gave everything to the final whistle. Our Year 7 girls turned a weather postponement into a productive training session and are raring to go when their tournament is rescheduled.
