Music Highlights

6 June | Cavendish World Cup So it turns out that the big sporting event of the summer was actually a 5-a-side run by Cavendish, hosted by Chiswick and accompanied with background music by Penny L on guitar and vocals. Who would have thought?

6 June | No Refund and friends went to Holy Family for our second appearance at their summer fair. With thanks to the PTA that put on a car boot sale that ensured a chance meeting to secure this gig.

6 June | Soulcage performed at a local resident’s birthday party. Who says metal bands don’t do private functions.

9 June | Deadset went to the Duck and Ball for another night of all-original music, party hats, and llamas.

14 June | No Refund made a stunning first appearance at the Green days mainstage at the Bedford Park Festival, watched on by many impressed local residents. Catch up here.

16 June | Chamber Orchestra performed a sophisticated set of classics from Samuel Barber, Beethoven, Holst and the Beatles. We also had Training strings conducted by our up- and-coming maestro Tali in Year 8.

16 June | Concert Band performed an admittedly-slightly-less-sophisticated-but- nonetheless-equally-entertaining set of film scores and show tunes, including debut performances from our new junior brass and wind ensembles.

17 June | We were incredibly lucky to have a visit from Kadiatu and Brimah Kanneh-Mason to talk about the experience of their musical family of seven children, all of whom are professional musicians, where we learnt about how they were raised, the importance of music in schools, and about Kadi’s bestselling new book ‘To Be Young, Gifted and Black’. The morning also started off with a performance from our up-and-coming talent Corey M.

19 June | Professional Bassoonist Charlotte Cox visited us for a morning of loud and questionable noises from long wooden logs. We even managed to get a performance of Ode to Joy at the end.

22 June | The Y7&8 Steel band performed at Age UK Wandsworth as part of an afternoon of fun games at one of our favourite care homes

23 June | Hounslow Battle of the Bands took place, once again at University of West London. Cronos, our representative, having already been crowned Chiswick’s winners in February, did us incredibly proud and were awarded ‘Highly Commended - Outstanding Technique and Musicianship’. Once again doing Chiswick Proud

24 June | We had an Open Mic Night at the City barge, featuring lots of friendly faces as well as debuts.

25 June | Tom Robinson put on a super first solo headline show at the Rocket - a pub we’re excited to develop relations with. We look forward to seeing more Tom gigs in the future

27 June | The Brass Band braved the heat to perform as part of Chiswick Brass Festival and were richly rewarded with an ice lolly afterwards.

30 June | Chiswick Voices Summer Concert had its fourth annual outing, featuring more traditional music from Faure, Britten and Sibelius, followed by less traditional music from Barry Manilow, Cab Calloway, and Journey. We also bid a sad farewell to Megan, Ruby, Anoushka, Jean and Eden who have served the choir brilliantly over many years.

ly | Our Acapella Group performed at Wendell Park Primary School, including a lovely message from Ms. Latham, their Music Lead.

A huge thank you again to your amazing choir for coming to our music assembly last Friday - we were absolutely blown away by you all, it was truly a wonderful moment to hear you all perform.

For me, most importantly it was having our children hear such quality, but also that many of our boys could see role models singing with such confidence and joy on stage. Looking around the room at all the kids faces, I could see the impact in their reactions - I was sat next to girl who looked at me and said 'well I did not expect that' and then start clapping before turning to me again and asking me why our choir doesn't sing like that. I think I have my work cut out for me!

4 July | Cronos and Deadset performed at Grove Park’s Summer Fair, our fifth annual appearance.

7 July | Chiswick School Summer Festival took place once more with 2 stages, an acoustic lounge, 14 bands, 3 food trucks, multiple bars, an art exhibition, and much more. Huge thanks to everyone in the PTA who made it happen, and especially to Mr Perry Banks who, after 3 years of incredibly valuable service to rock and pop music at Chiswick, had his final tribute as an avenged sevenfold song.

10 July | Markos performed a solo set at Cavendish before dashing off to Arts Awards.

13 July | We had a Theorbist (google it) and a Viola Da Gamba player (google it) visit us from the portrait players to show us about instrumental music in the 17th century. They were also kind enough to perform one of our Y12, Mojtaba’s compositions. Catch up here

Congratulations to everyone who took an ABRSM or Trinity exam this summer. We had some notable successes, including distinctions for Kyra, Allene, Haru, Haru, Sophie, Thomas, and James, as well as Grade 8s for Victoria (Singing) and Ollie (Trumpet).
