A Thriving Extracurricular Programme
Our extracurricular timetable has expanded this term, and the response from students has been fantastic. Athletics club, rounders club and cricket club have all joined the line-up, giving students even more opportunities to pick up a bat, lace up the spikes, try something new, and get involved in the heart of summer sport.
Just as encouragingly, rounders club will be running on Monday as well as Wednesday after half term, making it more accessible to even more students. We are looking forward to welcoming new faces.
Lunchtime Sport — Get Involved Every Day
Sport at Chiswick is not just for after school. There is something on every lunchtime, and we want to see as many students getting active as possible:
- The cage — open for football at lunch.
- The sports hall — open for badminton and basketball.
- The field and Year 7 area — a coach is on hand delivering small-sided football and cricket matches.Whether you want a competitive game, a chance to learn a new skill or simply a kickabout with friends, there is a space and a sport for you.
Athletics — Club Buzz and Competitive Success
Athletics club has been one of the standout success stories of the half term, with over 50 students attending each session. The energy on the track and field has been brilliant, and it is wonderful to see so many young athletes taking the chance to train, compete and improve. Long may it continue.
That commitment in training has been showing up on the competition track:
- Year 8 Super 8s — A huge well done to our girls' team, who brought home silver medals. A brilliant performance and a credit to their training.
- Year 7 Quad Kids — Our youngest athletes got their season off to a flying start, embracing the competition and gaining invaluable experience. The Year 9 and 10 Borough Athletics competition has been rearranged to Friday 22nd May at Osterley Athletics Track — best of luck to everyone involved, and we know you will do the school proud.
Sports Leaders Shine at Primary Sports Day
Our Sports Leaders stepped up magnificently to deliver a primary sports day, organising events, supporting younger children, and modelling exactly the kind of leadership we hope to nurture. The visiting pupils had a brilliant day, and our students gained invaluable experience leading from the front. A proud moment for the department.
A huge thank you to the following students who gave their time and energy to make it such a success:
Lois, Celene, Luisa, Hattie, Cleo, Lily, Jamie, Perez, Ollie, Charlie, Hamadan, Oliver, Casper, Bruke, Sebastian, Supo, Ethan, Rafa, Grace, Sophia, Sarah, Lexine, Najma and Zach.
With several more primary sports days to come this half term, our Sports Leaders programme is going from strength to strength.
Out-of-School Achievements — Chiswick Students Flying the Flag
It has been a remarkable half term for students competing outside of school, with several truly outstanding performances to celebrate.
Surrey Cup Glory — Barnes Rugby at The Stoop
A huge congratulations to Cleo, Alba and Chloe, who represented Barnes Rugby at The Stoop Stadium and helped their side lift the Surrey Cup. Playing rugby on such an iconic stage is an unforgettable experience in itself — to do so as part of a winning team is a tremendous achievement. We are immensely proud of all three.
Chiswick Cricket Women at Lord's
Another fantastic moment of representation: well done to Demi, Alba and Caitlin, who took to the field at the home of cricket — Lord's — representing Chiswick Cricket Club Women. Stepping out at Lord's is the dream of cricketers around the world, and to see Chiswick students out there is something truly special and to top it off, they won!
Julia — England Champion and Team GBR Gymnast
Julia has reached an extraordinary level in gymnastics, recently being crowned England Champion. She is now competing for qualification towards World Championship level competition, and will travel to Poland to represent Great Britain as part of Team GBR. A truly remarkable achievement — and one that reflects an enormous amount of training, sacrifice and dedication from Julia and her family. We could not be prouder, and we wish her every success in Poland.
These performances are a credit to the students, their families, and the school — and we hope they inspire many more students, especially our younger girls, to get stuck into sport and find out what they are capable of.
Last Saturday, a Year 8 girls’ crew made up of Grace, Tillie, Hattie and Georgia proudly represented Chiswick School at the Chiswick Regatta. Competing against older Year 9 crews, the team performed exceptionally well and showed fantastic determination throughout the competition.
The girls achieved an impressive victory in their opening race against Shiplake, a highly regarded rowing school. In their second race, they narrowly missed out on a place in the final after a close contest with local club Tideway Scullers. The crew should be incredibly proud of their performances and the resilience they demonstrated throughout the day.
On Saturday 9th May, local football team Polytechnic celebrated their 150th anniversary with a series of matches against Kings House based Civil Service. To commemorate this milestone, the club launched their first women’s team this season and the day of the event marked their first 11 a side competitive game. In a proud moment for Chiswick School, and watched on by alumni from the 1960s onwards (and a current Deputy Head), four of our Sixth Form girls played a key role in an impressive 4-2 victory - with Emily, Daisy and Beth all scoring and Jass playing a crucial role in goal. With the event captured brilliantly on camera by Sam, our Year 13 budding sports photographer, it was a lovely example of the school and local community coming together - which both hope can continue going forward to great success!
Good Luck to Our Exam Students
To all our GCSE, A Level and Vocational PE and Sport students — we want to wish you the very best of luck for your upcoming exams. You have worked tirelessly across the year, and a huge congratulations on the effort, focus and quality you brought to practical moderation. Your performances were a real credit to you and to the department. Take that same composure into the written exams — we are right behind you.
Looking Ahead — Dates for the Diary
There is a packed programme of events coming up, and we would love to see parents and families along to cheer on our students.
