Over two days, Year 10 Geography students travelled to Brighton to complete their GCSE Paper 2 coastal fieldwork investigation. The trip focused on exploring how coastal management strategies impact both coastal processes and local communities along the Brighton coastline.
Throughout the visit, students worked in groups to collect and record a range of fieldwork data from different locations along the beach. They investigated coastal defences and observed erosion and deposition processes. Students also considered how human intervention can protect coastal areas while affecting the surrounding environment and economy.
The fieldwork gave students valuable hands-on experience in using geographical enquiry skills that will support their GCSE studies and future examinations. They also discovered just how challenging it can be to carry out public surveys in the field.
Despite the weather not being quite as warm as hoped, students showed excellent teamwork, resilience, and enthusiasm throughout the two days. After completing their investigations, many students enjoyed some well-earned fish and chips from local seaside shops while taking in the atmosphere of the Brighton seafront. The trip was both educational and enjoyable, helping to bring classroom learning to life through real-world geographical investigation.
Thank you to all the staff who helped to support, plan, and lead the trips.
