Key Stage 3 students were invited to participate in the inaugural Chiswick School History Essay Competition by undertaking their own research and writing an essay on the most significant historical event in British history. Essays from across all year groups were received and scrutinised by James Wisdom, Chairman of the Chiswick & Brentford Local History Society, and our own in-house historian and Deputy Headteacher, Mr Orr. Their scores combined to determine our overall winner, runners-up, and year-group winners.
The essay spanned thousands of years of British history. The judges were impressed by the depth of research conducted and the passion behind each entry; each historian argued their case with conviction.
Our overall runners-up are Talulah V (Year 8) and Rosemary C (Year 7), with essays on the inception of the NHS and the Bristol Bus Boycott, and our overall winner is Fredrik B (Year 7), who chose to write his essay on the Roman invasion.
Congratulations to every historian who took part. We hope their certificates are displayed proudly at home! Extracts from our essays are proudly on display in the history corridor, will appear on our social media, and can be read below.
