Year 12 Meets Dr Kelman - Challenging the “Natural Disaster” Myth

Yesterday our Year 12 Geography class had the privilege of hearing from Dr Ilan Kelman, Professor of Disasters and Health at UCL and author of Disaster by Choice. He posed a powerful question: “Can we call a disaster natural?” His answer - no. Hazards exist, but human choices turn them into disasters. This insight will support our work on vulnerability and the risk management cycle, and connect to upcoming topics like water, climate change, superpowers, and globalisation.
