IMG 0010This half term saw the return to fixtures at Chiswick School, with a number of teams playing in the Hounslow Leagues or Middlesex Cups.

Netball

In netball news, the Year 8 netball team played their first two fixtures. Their first match was against Nishkam School away. This was the first time the girls had played as a team together, but played as if they had been a team for a long time. For some of them this was their first ever competitive netball match. After a great performance the girls were victorious, beating Nishkam 21-2.

In their second fixture the girls played another fairly new school, Bolder Academy. The girls came in with lots of confidence from the previous match and again were victorious, winning 16-0.

This success has come from some amazing coaches, Matilda and Susie from our 6th Form, who have trained and managed the girls well to prepare for these fixtures.

After Christmas the Year 7 team will begin their fixtures, something which we know the girls are excited about.

Football

In football news, the Year 7 football team lost the first match against a strong Heathlands side. This resulted in Chiswick being knocked out of the Middlesex Cup in the first round. The upcoming Hounslow league matches have all been arranged for after the Christmas break with fixtures against Gunnersbury, Bolder and ISL.

The Year 8 football team won their first match in the Middlesex Cup, beating The Heathland School 5-0 and are playing Gunnersbury in the next round.

The 6th Form team had their first fixture against London Oratory School at Barn Elms under the backdrop of Fulham’s Craven Cottage Stadium and even though we lost, there was an excellent goal scored by Sina N.

The Year 9s played their first game against Isleworth and Syon in the Middlesex Cup. Unfortunately Chiswick lost 3-6 but there was some great performance from the team and a special mention for Justin who scored a hat-trick to keep us in the game.

Even though the weather is getting cold and nights are drawing in, the extracurricular clubs are still well attended and we are proud of those pupils taking part.

In the coming weeks the department has planned some fantastic events that the pupils can participate in. These include a basketball tournament (which is being held in memory of Ali) and our festive fun run. We will also be hosting a primary school indoor athletics event and pupils from our school will be leading some of the events.
